Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.

My classroom is in Rowayton, CT. It is a bright, organized and inspiring work environment stocked with resources and tools to promote explorative, creative and fun learning across the curriculum. I am available to travel for sessions to students' houses, schools and libraries, upon request. At the start of my work with a new student my first goal is to get to know them; to figure out what their main interests are, what motivates them, what they like and dislike about school and primarily to foster a rapport with them. I take time to evaluate the student's needs and to identify how they learn most effectively. I then am able to tailor an individualized learning plan that caters to their personal learning style, strengths and challenges. With parental consent, I sometimes collaborate with the student's teacher to attain a deeper understanding of their contributions in the classroom in order for my teaching to fully support what is being taught at school.

ACADEMIC SKILL BUILDING, Pre-K - 7

I am very familiar with the Common Core and other learning schemes currently in place in both the private and the public education sectors. My role is to support and boost your child's academic confidence. I do this by helping children overcome learning challenges, breaking down information, presenting them with new approaches, and strengthening their learning foundation. I also provide extension opportunities for children needing to be challenged beyond their grade level. I aim to get to the root of the issue quickly and peel back the layers in order to fix the problem. For example, a third grader's reluctance to write may in fact be linked to a handwriting block or spelling hang-up. Perhaps a first grader refuses to read because they are stumped by long vowels but can't articulate that. Maybe multiplication tables are creating anxiety due to a weaker foundation in mental math strategies. Sometimes the problem is less obvious than what it seems and I dedicate my experience and knowledge of childhood development and learning to solving these issues.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING COACHING, K - 12

Childrens minds are like air traffic control centers. They have a plethora of information flooding in and it's up to them to process it, reorganize it, retain it, then redistribute it. From academic content, to scheduling, to sports, to applications, to family responsibilities, to deadlines, to homework, to social responsibilities, the input that kids and teenagers experience throughout the day is all consuming and overwhelming. I teach the skills needed to organize, prioritize, time manage, study, and become an independent learner. I help to implement positive homework habits, strategies to cope with the college application process, effective note-taking skills, organization of course work into binders and folders, and I give advice to parents about managing their child's workload and expectations.
